Celebrating Lohri with Karara Foods: A Festival of Harvest and Joy

As winter gives way to spring, the vibrant festival of Lohri arrives, bringing with it a sense of joy, warmth, and community.

Celebrated predominantly in Punjab, Lohri marks the end of winter and the beginning of the harvest season, especially for sugarcane crops. It’s a time for families and friends to come together, share delicious food, and partake in joyful celebrations. At Karara Foods, we believe that every celebration is incomplete without good food, and Lohri is no exception. Karara is enjoying cooking up some

  • Coconut powder balls
  • Aubergine Pakora wraps (a favourite among our regulars)
  • Dahi Bhalla’s
  • And Decorated Dhokra

Lohri is celebrated on the night of January 13th, coinciding with the harvest of sugarcane. The festival is deeply rooted in tradition, with its origins linked to the harvest of Rabi crops. The evening is marked by bonfires, dancing, singing, and offering prayers to the fire, a symbol of prosperity and good fortune. As the flames rise, people toss in offerings of popcorn, jaggery, and sesame seeds, which are also enjoyed as snacks during the festivities.

Savoring the Experience with Karara Foods

At Karara Foods, we take pride in offering a wide range of high-quality food products at our events both personal and catering.

Here are some delightful ways you can make your Lohri celebrations even more special this year:

1. Traditional Treats

No Lohri celebration is complete without the quintessential sweets and snacks. With popcorn in the pocket ready to toss on the fire we also eat lovely prepared sweets like our coconut balls, jalebi and boondi laddos topped with virk (silver foil)

2. Hearty Winter Delicacies

Comforting and hearty meals are a staple during Lohri. With the weather being very cold today in England we will be having nice hot dishes to keep the cold out. Chaat, pakoras and wraps being a favourite.

3. Refreshing Beverages

Balancing out the warmth of the bonfire refreshing drinks such as our Mango lassi or warm masala chai will be on the list.

Lohri is not just about the food; it’s about the memories created with loved ones. Engaging with family and friends by encouraging them to participate in the festivities. Dance around the bonfire, share stories, and enjoy the delicious treats prepared with love and care.

At Karara Foods, we are committed to providing you with dishes using quality ingredients that make our food more authentic and enjoyable.
